New Zealand 2019 – 2020
Period: 12.12.2019 – 13.1.2020
New Zealand was always a far destination for us and the country, which will be never visited… However, when Martina got an opportunity to participate in the World Congress of Herpetology (WCH9) in Dunedin, we decided to go there. Our plan was to visit both main islands and to focus on key attractions for us.
Highligths of the trip on the North Island:
- Northland Peninsula – subtropical forests, marine reserves and bird islands
- Rotorua – a paradise for volcanic enthusiasts with geysers, multi-coloured lakes and volcanic peaks
- Tongariro Alpine Crossing – a tough 1-day hike across “Mordor”
Highligths of the trip on the South Island:
- NP Aoraki – trek around the highest peak of the Southern Alps
- Fiordland – admiring glaciated peaks of the Southern Alps, stunning lakes and beauty of Milford Sound
- Dunedin – exploring a rich animal biodiversity in Otago Peninsula
