
Australia & Borneo 2024
Period: 6.7. – 11.8.2024
Martina planned to attend World Congress of Herpetology in Kuching (Borneo) at the beginning of August 2024. Therefore, we decided to visit Australia for the second time, and make a road trip across Western part of the continent – from Darwin to Perth – just before the congress. July period was also selected as an unique opportunity to swim with whale sharks in Ningaloo Marine Park.
Highlights of the trip:
- Litchfield NP – magnetic termite mounds, waterfalls, rock cities & lot of spiders
- Judbarra / Gregory NP – escarpment walk along Victoria River & impressive boab trees
- Purnululu NP – beehive-shaped domes, deep gorges, Livistona palms & abundant wildlife
- Windjana Gorge – Freshwater Crocodiles in the rocky gorge
- Karijini NP – spectacular water-filled gorges & Milky Way above your head
- Cape Range NP & Ningaloo Marine Park – abundant marine life on the coral reef & once in a lifetime encounter with whale sharks & orcas
- Kalbarri NP – skywalk above Murchison River & scenic rocky coast
- Nambung NP – huge limestone pillars in Pinnacles Desert & living marine stromatolites in Lake Thetis
- Yanchep NP – kangaroos & koalas
- Bako NP (Borneo) – tropical paradise with steaming reptile life (snakes guaranteed)
